Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, Simon Osei Mensah, to be an agent of transformation in the region, if Parliament approves his nomination.
He pointed out that a good relationship between him (the minister-designate) and the people of the Ashanti would be a prerequisite for his success in the office.
Otumfuo Osei II made these observations when the regional minister-designate paid a courtesy call on him to introduce himself formally to the King of Ashanti Kingdom and seek his blessings as he prepares to meet the Appointments Committee.
The occupant of the Golden Stool admonished the minister-designate not to “change from the person you are into a character that would destroy your government, but instead cement ties with the Golden Stool as well as Manhyia Palace when you eventually assume the role as regional minister.”
The Asantehene’s advice was premised on the grounds that people easily change the moment they are elevated in society.
“I keep saying that you (politicians) come and go but I and Asanteman will forever be here so for any of you to succeed, you must humble yourselves and let’s all together work for the kingdom and our people,” Otumfuo urged.
