Eric Asante was set free after serving 15 years in jail for a crime he did not commit
The Tamale-based teacher who was accused of defilement and jailed for 15 years in 2005 has revealed that although the Supreme Court has acquitted and discharged him of the rape case, he would only be emotionally relieved should the victim names the perpetrator of the crime he was accused of.
Speaking to Atinka AM Drive’s host Ekourba Gyasi, Eric Asante mentioned that although he has been acquitted, he still harbours the pain of false accusation.
According to Eric Asante, the pain will only go away if the girl confesses and names the person who slept with her and forced her to mention my name as a cover up.
“I am convinced that she knows the father of her baby, I believe she is being threatened not to mention the person’s name”, he said.
Eric Asante was sentenced to 15 years in jail with hard Labour in September 2005, by the Tamale High Court after being convicted of defiling a female student, the result of which was a son.
Eric Asante began his appeal at the Supreme Court in 2012 and after a DNA test on the child, the Police Hospital Forensic Laboratory established that there was no paternal link between Eric Asante and the child.
