Dr Anthony Akoto-Osei, the Minister-designate for the Monitoring and Evaluation says his role as assigned by the president, is to check his colleague ministers to ensure they perform.
According to him, his charge is to ensure that public services is discharged in an effective, efficient and timely manner.
He gave the explanation when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee to be vetted for the position.
Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, who is also the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo constituency told the committee all ministers nominated by the President were expected to develop key evaluation indicators from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto and submit them to cabinet for approval.
He added that he will be responsible for ensuring that the ministers perform in accordance with the indicators taken from the party’s manifesto.
“He [President Akufo-Addo] wants government to deliver public service in an effective, efficient and timely manner. Every sector minster must be able to come up from the manifesto with defined indicators that cabinet must accept… Once they do, my job is to make sure they perform.”
He noted that he intended to have a technical team to support him discharge his duties.
The nominee, who is a minister of state at the President said he has been assured by the President he will be appointed to cabinet.
Asked if his position would not been in conflict to that of the Senior Minister, Osafo Maafo, Dr Akoto Osei said “My job is partially to police my colleagues” while Mr Maafo was to coordinate the economic sectors.
