The Ashanti Regional Police has re-arrested the 13 members of Delta Force vigilante group who escaped from lawful custody Thursday.
Police sources say all the 13 are currently in custody but did not say how, where and when they were re-arrested.
It is unclear whether the escapees who were being tried on charges of assault surrendered themselves to the Police following the issuance of bench warrant for their arrest.
The 13 members were forcibly freed Thursday afternoon when their colleagues stormed a Circuit Court in Kumasi, threatened the presiding judge and vandalized property during court session.
They threatened to attack the judge who had to be given immediate protection by the police officers who brought the 13 suspects.
This made it easy for the suspects to escape because they had overpowered the police. Before Police reinforcement arrived, all the accused persons had escaped.
The police managed to arrest eight of the Delta Force members whose action led to the escape of the 13.
At an emergency press conference in Accra organised by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) – David Asante Appeatu, indicated that the necessary efforts will be made to rearrest the escapees
Condemning the incident, Ambrose Dery said “no one is above the law… and I wish to make it clear that we shall do all in our power to make sure that they are arrest and brought to face the due process.
“Let the message go out there to the 13 persons that it is in their interest to resubmit themselves to due process and have their day in court, otherwise the police will pursue them but if need be, we shall involve all other security agencies as maybe necessary to make sure that they are brought to justice.”
A bench warrant was meanwhile issued for their arrest.
