A huge blaze Sunday engulfed a fuel storage depot at Ashaiman Tulaku near the Timber Market and destroyed 12 tankers loaded with products.
It is unclear what might have caused the inferno, however, firemen called to fight the blaze suspect the fire may have resulted from the illegal transfer of products from one tanker to another.
Their suspicion of possible siphoning of petroluem products from one tanker into another was based on the presence of pumps and hoses at the scene of the fire.
It took 11 fire engines from the Tema area, one from Tema Oil Refinery, a turntable ladder and 35 personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service to bring the over three-hour blaze under control at about 4:33 pm.
No death was recorded, however one fireman who sustained a cut on the hand, according to the National Ambulance Service crew on duty, was taken to the Tema General Hospital for further treatment after first aid.
