The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), led by Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, is poised to develop the country’s sports with the main focus on youth development.
To this end, the PPP is looking at developing sports talents with the introduction of comprehensive and consistent plans and programmes through its Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) which, it intends, to make it very practical and well institutionalised.
The party, has, therefore, pledged to link its sports policy with its policy on education to include the introduction of sports programmes that will instil discipline and promote better health among the youth.
According to the PPP’s manifesto, it will bring on board effective sports programmes (but did not specify) which take their roots from schools sports to ensure that with the government’s support, the country will begin to develop future world and Olympic champions.
To achieve this, it is the plan of the PPP to enhance infrastrutural development for sporting activities to take place.
“We will upgrade the current Accra Sports Stadium to a world class standard”, the manifesto indicated.
This and other improved facilities will help raise the country’s performance in world sports while lamenting that “our performances at successive Olympic Games have not been fitting of a country of our stature”.
