The much-awaited National Women’s League (NWL) would kick off on Saturday, April 29, at the respective league centres with all 16 competing clubs expressing their readiness to do battle for the ultimate.
At a ceremony held at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Secretariat yesterday to unveil the season, the chairperson of the Women’s League Board (WLB), Leanier Addy, reiterated the GFA’s preparedness to do everything within its power to ensure the sustainance of women’s football in the country.
She said the board had agreed with Ghana Premier League TV right holders, Star Times, to include the womens competition in their package.
This season’s league which is the fifth edition of the NWL would be ushered in with a Super Cup match between the defending League Champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies and last season’s Sanford FA Cup winners, Police Ladies at the Kumasi Sports Stadium at 1 p.m. this Saturday. The match would be a curtain raiser to the Asokwa Deportivo and Ahsantigold 2016/2017 MTN FA Cup round of 64 encounter.
In the week one fixtures, Ampem Darkoa Ladies would take on Lepo Ladies at the Ohene Ameyaw Park, Ashtown Ladies would also welcome Fabulous Ladies to the Prempah College Park while Northern Ladies play Prisons Ladies at the Tamale Stadium Annex. Real Upper Ladies would also engage new entrants Kumasi Sports Academy at the Wa Stadium.
For the Southern Zone, Hasaacas Ladies would take on Samaria Ladies at the Bompeh Park in takoradi, Police Ladies host Lady Strikers at Police Park at Tesano, Sea Lions Ladies engage debutants Holy Royals at the Nduom Stadium while Immigration Ladies visit Soccer Intellectuals at the UEW Park.
Similar to that of last season, the winner of the competition would receive GH¢10,000 while the runner-up takes home GH¢5,000.
Earlier, the board held a stakeholders meeting during which they were taken through the Laws of the Game by a FIFA instructor.
