Ghana Coach Avram Grant has revealed his side isn’t ready for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations which will take place in Gabon from January 14 to February 5.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group D of the tournament against seven-time African Champions Egypt, Uganda and Mali and will need to be really prepared to go past them.
The Black Stars under the tutelage of Grant failed to beat two of their AFCON group opponents in 2016 after losing 2-0 to Egypt and drawing goalless at home to Uganda in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Grant and his charges have been camping in the UAE city of Al Ain since January 3rd but the Israeli claims his team will only be ready for the tournament in a week’s time.
“I cannot say they are ready now, but they will be ready in one week. We have one week more and the target is to be ready physically, mentally and everything before 17th of January,” he said.
“Everything is going by the programme and the players are responding very well, and all of them took part in training because we didn’t have any player that couldn’t make it even though the training was hard.
“I think we will achieve our target to be ready on the 17th of January.” Ghana will begin its campaign against Uganda on the 17th of January.
