Four Ghanaian Premier League clubs Wa All Stars, Berekum Chelsea, Inter Allies and Ebusua Dwarfs have secured bumper sponsorship deal with online betting firm Soccabet on Friday, two weeks after GHANAsoccernet.com broke the news.
The official announcement which include sponsorship for two other unnamed second-tier sides will take place at the company’s headquarters in Osu, Accra.
The six clubs have agreed the terms of the contract, paving way for the official announcement.
GHANAsoccernet.com revealed last month the betting firm had agreed deals with the clubs despite the continuous delay of the Ghana Premier League.
The sponsorship deal bring to the fore the latest betting industry to monopolise the sponsorship sector of football in Ghana.
Four Premier League clubs Ashantigold, Aduana Stars, Medeama and Liberty Professionals have secured sponsorship deals with Betway while Dreams FC are hooked onto Mybet as the number of gambling companies interested in sponsoring clubs keeps escalating.
These clubs will now be able to challenge for Premier League honours as they can inject the money into new players and new infrastructure, giving them a better chance of winning.
In what could best be viewed as ambush marketing, the Ghana Premier League which has been without a headline sponsor for two seasons will be dominated by betting firms.
