Total Group, who are the title sponsors of the AFCON, held the media launch of the tournament today in Accra. The tournament which is hosted by Gabon, starts on the 14th of January 2017 and runs till the 5th of February.
Managing Director of Total Petroleum Ghana, Mr. Olivier Van-Parys, said the launch was to re-echo the company’s passion for football. “Our decision to partner African Football is to foster unity and development that this principal sport brings to the continent.
On the occasion of the launch of the Total AFCON 2017, Total Petroleum Ghana Limited re-echoes its passion for football and development by bringing exciting and engaging activities to the public at all our service to create the AFCON fever and strengthen ties with our dear customers.” Total and CAF agreed a deal in July 2016 to make the petroleum company the title sponsors of the tournament for eight years.
Ghana’s Black Stars will be taking part in the tournament and their main aim will be to win the trophy which will end the country’s 34 year-drought for another African Nations Cup title.
