The Ghana premier league entered its second week over the weekend. Games were played on Saturday and Sunday as teams warm themselves into the new season.
All stars welcomed Ebusua Dwarfs to the Malik Jabir park in Wa in the weekend’s opener. The two sides settled for a barren draw in a game with very little to choose between them.
Hearts of Oak stuttered at their new home as they succumbed to a 1-3 defeat to Ashanti Gold SC. Ashgold led early on through James Akaminko. Amos Addai weaved his way through the Hearts defence with a brilliant second before Joseph Esso pulled one back for Hearts. Shafiu Mumuni sealed victory for Ashgold right at the death.
Dreams FC had all but secured maximum points on the road until Stephen Amankonah pegged them back with a late equalizer for Berekum Chelsea. Samuel Pimpong’s beauty of an opener looked like the difference but for the late drama.
Bechem United beat Medeama SC in a comfortable 2-0 victory at the Nana Gyeabour park. Seth Sowah and Emmanuel Owusu Boakye were the scorers on the day.
Asante Kotoko earned a solitary goal victory over Inter Allies at the Baba Yara stadium. Obed Owusu was on hand to connect Emmanuel Gyamfi’s cross ten minutes after the break.
Elmina Sharks held their own and resisted everything champions Aduana Stars threw at them in a pulsating 0-0 draw at the Nduom stadium.
Karela FC and Techiman Eleven wonders played out a one goal apiece game in the battle of the new entrants played at the Crosby Awuah memorial park. Abdul Wahab put the visitors ahead but William Opoku Mensah was on hand with an instant response for Karela FC.
West Africa Football Academy went, saw and put Liberty Professionals to bed at their own background. Aminu Mohammed, Richard Danso and Charles Boateng were the main actors in the demolition. Brite Andoh however got a late consolation for Liberty Professionals.
THE CHANGE THAT IS HOLDING FIRM THE CENTER AT ASHANTI GOLD SC..
The aftermath of Ashanti Gold’s title winning season three seasons ago has been a period of turmoil and constant kerfuffle. The cracks deepen by the day. The posture of stakeholders at the club accentuated the precarious situation even the more.
From a never ending fan outrage through technical team and management team tag of war to players- coach incompatibilities, Ashgold has had to pay for with dwindling fortunes on the pitch after prosecuting the domestic league for the fourth time in their history. So uncharacteristic of them, they had leaped from one relegation dogfight into another in consecutive seasons. The situation went from bad to chaotic as every news emanating from the camp of the Aboakese club bothered on negativity.
Clearly, the Kudjoe Fianoo led management team had outlived their usefulness and a new breath of fresh air and ideas was needed at the club. A fairly successful 10 year reign of an astute football administrator had suddenly turned a poisonous chalice.
After successfully surviving the drop for a second season running, the board of the club heeded to the constant cry for change and in came the Dr. Kwaku Frimpong led consortium.
Popularly known in football and business circles as “champion”, the former aspirant of the Asante Kotoko top position is slowly but gradually doing something right at Ashanti Gold SC. The usual confrontations between supporters, technical team and management in the recruitment of players hardly ever surfaced prior to the start of the current season. The new management executed a well orchestrated recruitment style to get their coach his preferred targets.
Again, the new management team have succeeded in placing supporters in an area where they thrive best, supporting the team and not meddling with the day to day running of the club.
The results? Vividly instant!!..Ashanti Gold SC hold the sole record as the only club with a 100% record this season. Still early days yet but surely the centre seem to have held at Ashanti Gold Sporting Club.
