The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has expressed its condolence to the Life Patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, following the death of his mother Asantehemaa Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem II.
The Asantehemaa passed away on November 14, 2016 at the age of 105.
The Association is saddened by the death of the wise Queen Mother under whose guidance and supervision the Great King has ruled the Asante Kingdom over the past years.
A statement from the secretariat called on the Asantehene and the people of the Asante Kingdom to remain firm in the Lord especially in these times.
“These are trying moments for our Great King and the Kingdom and Ghana as a whole. But the ways of the good Lord is definitely not our ways.
“We can only take solace in the fact that by her great deeds to humanity, she is resting in the bosom of the Lord”, a statement from the SWAG Secretariat stated.
It said the entire Association will follow keenly the activities preceding the funeral and will be fully represented at the funeral to mourn with the King and the kingdom.
It called on the sports fraternity in Ghana to lend support to the King in these trying moments.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been the Life Patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and contributed immensely to the development of the club.
He single handedly ensured the 2015 SWAG Cup Match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Ashgold became a success by attending the match as a Special Guest of Honour.
