Former Super Falcons head coach, Sam Okpodu has predicted victory for the side against perennial rivals, Black Queens of Ghana at the on-going 10th Africa Women Cup of Nations (Awcon) in Cameroon.
The reigning African champions will confront West African neighbours in Wednesday’s Group B Matchday 2 clash at the Stade Municipal de Limbe.
Both sides were convincing winners in the group’s matchday 1 clashes against Mali and newcomers, Kenya on Sunday in Limbe.
Okpodu said Ghana are one of the traditional sides of the continental biennial football showpiece that the title holders will not want to treat with kid gloves.
“The key is that Super Falcons are mentally, physically and psychologically ready for the crunch clash against rivals, Black Queens of Ghana.
“The superb performance against Mali is certain to be the lubricant and tonic Falcons need to further out-muscle the Ghanaian side.
“However, Ghana are not pushovers, they have been there right from the inception of the African championship and have equally beaten Nigeria once or twice.
“That means we must be on top of our performance as the encounter is expected to be a grudge one.
“I foresee the winners of the clash ending up in the final and possibly lifting the Awcon top prize.
“I’m expecting victory for Falcons, Falcons will certainly soar higher above the opponents, Ghana but nothing should be done to underrate the opposition,” said the former Warri Wolves and Ikorodu United coach to supersport.com.
Nigeria are at the group’s summit on three points same as Ghana but on superior goals while the other members, Kenya and Mali are without any point after game one hostilities.
