Sulley Muntari’s Deportivo La Coruna has been demoted from the Spanish Laliga following their 4-2 loss against Barcelona on Sunday.
The Galicians needed to win to maintain their slender hopes of surviving the drop when they welcome the Blaugrana to the Estadio Abanca-Raizor in week 35 on Sunday.
However, Clarence Seedorf’s outfit were thump 4-2 courtesy goals from Philipe Coutinho and Lionel Messi’s hat-trick despite Lucas Perez and Emre Colak getting two goals for the hosts.
The win also saw Ernesto Valverde’s side crowned as champions of the Spanish La Liga for the 25th time.
Deportivo’s relegation will be the second time Muntari has been relegated with club in two years.
The Blue and White lads joined Las Palmas and UD Malaga into the relegation abyss.
Muntari suffered a similar ordeal with Pescara in the Italian Serie A.
He joined Deportivo La Coruna on a short term deal in February in a bid to help the club maintain their Laliga status.
