Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has confirmed to Class Sports that the newly built Sports Emporium in the Odododiodio Constituency would be inaugurated on November 14, 2016.
The facility was scheduled to be inaugurated on Friday November 4, but has been postponed to fit into the schedule of President John Dramani Mahama who is expected to be at the ceremony.
The facility boasts of an arena and other supporting sports facilities that would serve the people of the constituency and the Ghanaian public at large.
“We wanted to commission it this weekend but because the President would be attending the Farmers’ Day event in Kintampo, that is why we have shifted it to next week,” Mr Vanderpuye said.
He rejected assertions that the inauguration had been postponed to give the governing party the chance to make political capital of the project as the country inches closer to elections.
“The President is going to do the commissioning and it is certainly not a campaign gimmick. The President has been a part of all this. The President has been the champion of this and it is only proper that he comes to commission it. This is an international boxing gym. We do not have any of this in West Africa and who else to commission this than His Excellency,” Mr Vanderpuye asked.
