Ghana’s youngest FIFA referee, Daniel Laryea, has described the World’s football governing body’s life ban handed his countryman referee Joseph Odartei Lamptey as harsh and unfair.
FIFA on Monday announced that Ghana’s topmost centre official had been found guilty of match manipulation in a World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Senegal last year where he awarded a controversial penalty for the Bafana Bafana who where host.
Initially he was handed a three month ban by CAF after the Senegalese FA protested to the outrageous decision but the young knight of the whistle thinks otherwise.
“There are mafias everywhere in this game, he is not the only referee who faulted but south Africa’s Daniel Bennet took the same decision but has been left off the hook and even poised for Russia 2018.
“But for Lamptey there was confusion of colours and luck eluded him. However his previous dubious matches was the reference points for his ban which I think is unfair”, he told Starr Sports.
The 30-year old referee believes the country’s mother body RAG must appeal the decision to save Ghana’s image.
