Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare has won gold in the 100 meters final at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Blessing edged out Jamaica’s two time Olympic gold medalist Veronica Campbell-Brown and Olympic silver medalist Kerron Stewart in the finals
Crossing the finish line in an impressive 10.85 seconds, victory couldn’t have tasted any sweeter for Blessing Okagbare, who missed out on gold at London’s 2012 Summer Olympics.
This victory in the commonwealth games serve as another validation for the crowning of Blessing Okagbare as the new face of Africa’s athletics.
She is a multi-event athlete who has won laurels in the 100 meter sprint, 200 meter race and the long jump.
She is the holder of the African women’s record in the 100 meters final which she set at the London Anniversary Games in 2013 with a time of 10.79 seconds.
She also won the bronze medal in the long hump event during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
