Head of the Technical Directorate at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Oti Akenteng, has lauded Baba Rahman’s move from Chelsea to Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.
Rahman was deemed surplus to requirement under new ‘Blues’ manager Antonio Conte for the upcoming season.
The 22-year-old completed a season-long loan deal with ‘The Royal Blues’ and reunited with his former boss at Augsburg, Markus Weinziel.
Akenten described the move as a good one, which will help shape the former Asante Kotoko defender ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers.
“Is a very good move because we will need Baba [Rahman] to be playing as often as possible,” Akenteng told Ultimate FM’s Sports.
“At Chelsea, he comes in as replacement. He has been on and off. Is not good for Ghana. We need players who are playing regularly for their clubs. And I think is good because he is moving to a club we believe he will get more playing time’.
Baba Rahman has been handed the number 14 jersey at Schalke, formerly worn by fellow Ghanaian Gerald Asamoah.
