Asante Kotoko Goalie Isaac Amoako has declared that, the tumultuous winless streak Asante Kotoko has been experiencing is over and that, the Porcupines are now back on winning track, following the win in the FA Cup Round of 64 match against Bekwai Youth Academy last Sunday.
The goalie’s conviction isn’t only based on the victory chalked at Bekwai. He’s in fact, certain that, his comeback to full activity brings good omen to the team like it has in previous years.
Prior to game, Kotoko had played five Premier League matches without victory. The Porcupines thus slipped to fourth from second position on the league table. That sparked loads of supporters’ agitation, which even led to the exit of former Coach Zdravko Logarusic.
Isaac Amoako, who has been injured for nearly two years, played no direct role in those matches. He was however handed his first competitive game after his surgery in 2015 last Sunday. He fared well especially with his save of the Bekwai team’s fourth penalty kick.
The match ended 1-1 in regulation time and Kotoko proceeded to win 3-1 penalties. Speaking with Asantekotokosc.com after the match, Amoako, who is in his 10th season at the club, said, the team’s woes were over after with comeback and involvement.
“That has been my hallmark since I joined Kotoko ten years ago” said the experienced goalie with his face glowing with confidence. “Things always take a good turn around for the club anytime we are in distress and I’m called upon to play after a long while” he disclosed.
“I have countless examples. I remember things got very bad for us at a certain stage in the 2013/14 season. We were 14th on the table. Soulama Abdoulaye was then keeping the post. We drew most of our matches. After a while, I was selected for a Hearts of Lions encounter. We won by 2-1 and that got us back to winning ways” he narrated.
“Once, we had gone so many years without a win against Heats in Accra. I was chosen for a game against them and we won by 1-0. It is just like we saw at Bekwai. I got my first chance in this distress moment and we won. We couldn’t win any of our last five games but we won at Bekwai with me in post. It’s a sign of good things to come. The win will keep on coming from here. We are back and that will continue going forward” he argued.
