Olympics Stun Kotoko 2-0 On Otumfuo’s Birthday

Kumasi Asante Kotoko were unable to delight their owner and life patron, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on his birthday after they succumbed to a 2-0 loss at Accra Great Olympics on Saturday afternoon.

The Porcupine Warriors had played six consecutive league matches without victory but were confident of ending that barren run on the Otumfuo’s birthday today (May 6) against fellow strugglers, Oly at the Accra Sports Stadium.

They were also looking to appease their fans after a humiliating 3-1 loss to bitter-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the President’s Cup first-leg held at the same venue on Monday.

However, the Wonder Club had other ideas and carried the day after scoring a goal in either half to extend Kotoko’s winless run to seven matches.

The first goal came through a cracking effort from Paul Fiatsi who volleyed home from the edge of the box after a poor clearance by Kotoko from a corner.

Francis Atsu Dzokpata ended the tie as a contest in the 77th minute when his close-range effort wrong-footed Kotoko goalie Felix Annan for Olympics’ second goal.

The Porcupine Warriors in the dying embers of the game scored but Abass Mohammed effort was ruled offside by the match officials.
