Board member of Division One League side Bofoakwa Tano and Former FA Cup Committee chairman, J. Y. Appiah has descended heavily on the critics of the President Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi saying he is not corrupt.
In the years gone by, many sports pundits and football fans have criticized the leadership style of Kwesi Nyantakyi.
The experienced lawyer was the first FA president to lead the country to it first world cup in Germany 2006 and have been able to make it in 2010 and 2014.
The country failed to perform in their last appearance which led the President of the country, John Dramani Mahama to set up commission of enquiry to query to what led to the country’s exit from the 2014 FIFA world cup in Brazil.
The expectations was high when the country qualified for the 2014 FIFA world cup after beating Egypt by 6:1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium but things didn’t go as the football enthusiasts expected but with all the allegations that popped up after the world cup and during the commission of enquiry, J. Y Appiah believes the Ghana Football Association president is not corrupt.
Speaking to Asempa Sports in an interview, Mr. Appiah said “Nobody have been able to prove that he [Kwesi Nyantakyi] is corrupt. It is the way people think.
“With all the agitations going round, if they are criticizing him and they are able to prove that he is corrupt, then I will believe what they are saying but nobody have been able to prove that he is corrupt.
“If you listen to radio and watch television, the analysis people do does not make sense to me. My problem is that when the GFA prepare their budget, they send it to the ministry for cabinet to approve it.
“When budget is being approved, a copy of the budget does not go to the GFA but rather it is the accountant of the ministry that pay all the money so I don’t get it when people brand the FA and Nyantakyi as corrupt.
“If budget is outrageous and does not make sense, then it wouldn’t be approved at all but here is the case everything will be approved by cabinet and the accountant pays everything so how you brand the FA as corrupt for me I don’t get their argument.” He added.
