A board member of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Limited, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, has called for a complete overhaul of the current playing body of the club following their dismal performance in the just-ended season.
He argued that the absence of quality in the team had made it imperative to enter the market to recruit players with character and desire to die for the club.
Speaking to the Graphic Sports last Friday, Nyaho, a former chairman of the club, declared that the next recruitment exercise would not only just to poach players but consider the commitment level of such players.
“We are going to have a serious interaction with them, players must be interviewed to know their technical skills and not just poaching them,” he stressed.
He said the days when players signed for the club just for the money were gone, saying although Hearts were ready to pay good money they would ensure that the money went to players, who demonstrated passion for the club.
Nyaho believed the lack of commitment on the part of the playing body was the sole reason why the Phobians could not lift the league title.
“I believe that when in the past the players were ready to die for the club, the club also died for them,” he asserted.
The firebrand board member said the team had often pride itself of producing the likes of Addo Odametey, Ofei Dodoo, Aggrey Fynn, Amadu Akuse, Mohammed Polo, Osei Kuffuor, Ishmael Addo, Ablade Kumah and Shamo Quaye, among others, in the past but the current generation lacked the quality to sustain the rich tradition that the club had nurtured in its over 100 years of existence.
