Accra Hearts of Oak forward, Cosmos Dauda says the team’s strong showing in the first round of the Ghana Premier League is indicative of what they want to achieve this season, however, he admits how the finish the entire season will very much depend on their chief tactician, Coach Frank Nuttall.
Hearts have picked up steadily in the first round which they rounded off impressively with a 3-0 win against Liberty Professionals, sparking a strong hope among their teeming fans, that they could push for a top finish from their current third position.
In an interview with the Graphic Sports, the 23-year-old, said his side were ready to challenge for the title and were prepared to approach every game at a time.
While he and his Phobia teammates dream of lifting the GPL title, Dauda, yet to make his presence felt this season, also believes it will take just more than ‘dreaming’ to wrestle the title from current leaders, WAFA and Aduana, who are second and also pushing forcefully to be champions.
He, however, admitted that it will be a tough task for the Phobians going into the second round especially when sides like Aduana Stars and WAFA are all gunning for the title.
“Of course, we are all dreaming of being crowned champions and that is possible but how we perform in the second round, I know we have the team to challenge for the league title and we are ready to take every match at a time and treat it important,” he added.
“Coach Frank Nuttall has been instrumental in our recent impressive form and he will be the one to win the title for us,” Dauda said.
Dauda noted that the turnaround for the team has been impressive wins over WAFA and neighbours, Liberty Professionals as well as not losing a match in their last six league games, which helped them to assume the third position with the 26 points on the log, as the first round ended last Sunday.
When asked about his personal performances this term, Dauda said he was working tirelessly to find his feet which saw him score eight goals for the Phobians in his debut season for the club.
Dauda has scored just twice in matches against Bechem United and Liberty Professionals but said he was working on his finishing and hope to return stronger in the second round.
