If LeBron James is the king, then Kawhi Leonard is the duke or at least the prince. They are arguably the best two-way players in the NBA at the moment, and having them face each other in the All-Star Game will be a matchup of epic proportion.
Three-time champion and 18-time All-Star LeBron ‘King’ James has proven himself as the next best thing in basketball numerous times over the course of his career, continues to break records and reach career milestones, the most recent being the youngest player to reach 28,000 points and has managed to silence many a naysayer in the process.
2014 champion and Finals MVP, two-time All-Star and two-time defensive player of the year, Kawhi Leonard is possibly the hardest-working man at the San Antonio Spurs and has been key to the success of the franchise over the past five years.
The two small forwards really have nothing small about them apart from the positions they play on the floor and it only takes watching one of their games to realise this. The All-Star game will be yet another platform for them to showcase how big their game really is. Despite his team’s slump, LeBron James is having a great season and performing at peak. James is averaging about 26 points, eight rebounds and 8.8 assists per game, and is leading the Cavs in points and assists.
Based on track record and current stats, one would say that LeBron would easily win this matchup, but looking at the talent that Kawhi will have on his Western Conference team, the matchup could go either way.
Both players have what it takes to dominate the paint, they shoot well from the field and are decent from beyond the arc, so at the end of the evening it will depend on who has the better night on the Smoothie King Center parquet.
The All-Star Game will be broadcast in Africa on Kwesé Sports on Monday, 20 February 2017 at 03:00 CAT.
