Courage Nanevie has improved on his previous performances to win silver in table tennis at the monthly medal competition played at Maryland, USA, over the weekend.
The Ghanaian who was representing Westchester tennis club in Maryland for the first time managed to shrug off opposition from established Chinese players to reach the final.
Speaking to the Graphic Sports yesterday from his US base, the ping-pong star said he was humbled by the achievement admitting that it was a difficult competition but he managed to sail through with determination.
“I played with about 150 players and from the group stage I managed to beat all the seven players in my group to qualify for the 1/16th stage where I met tougher opponents,” he recalled and added how the Chinese players gave him a difficult time.
Nanevie said he lost the final competition because of fatigue since he had played so many games and also met a Chinese player, Lily Wein, who was difficult to beat.
However, despite not winning the ultimate, Nanevie said he won the admiration of most of the players and officials who have promised to visit him at his Westchester base.
His next competition would be at the Westchester Open at New York this weekend and the Ghanaian table tennis star has promised to win this time around after emerging as a bronze medallist in his last three games.
“This time I am hoping to win the Westchester monthly competition because I am tired of placing third,” Nanevie stated and expressed hope about his chances because the competition at Maryland has presented him with the additional exposure he hopes to rely on to win.
