Hearts of Oak defeated Sporting Mirren 2-1 in the MTN FA Cup round of 64 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Phobians broke the deadlock of the encounter in the 24 minute through defender Anthony Nimo following a woeful defending by the second-tier side.
But the lead did not last long as Sporting Mirren restored parity courtesy a fine strike by captain Jewel Arthur in the 35th minute before the centre referee whistled for the end of the first stanza.
The premier giants came out strongly in the second half by pushing for the lead but Mirren held their own and quickly found their rhythm and battled on.
Hearts dominance paid off in the 54th minute when speedy winger Patrick Razak run rugged the defense of Mirren to restore their lead.
Mirren initiated a late charge on the Phobians as they went in search of the equalizer, which would have taken the game into the penalty shootout but Hearts experience came to bear as they quell off their opponents’ threat to march on to the next stage of the competition.
