New Columbus Crew acquisition Jonathan Mensah is happy with his early days at the Major League Soccer side.
The 26-year-old joined the Black and Gold from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala as a Designated Player via a Discovery Signing last month.
He becomes the second Ghanaian international at the club, joining Harrison Afful, with whom he played together at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
“He [Afful] explained a lot to me,” Mensah said, as reported by Dispatch.
“And I’m glad to get into the team myself and see what he was talking about.
“It’s a very true style of play [here]; it’s very good.
“I’m just glad to be here and wish to help the team every time we play.”
Mensah has also played for French side Evian TG, Granada in Spain, Udinese in Italy, South African outfit Free State Stars and local club Ashanti Gold.
“We’ve been in a different type of schedule in terms of the tremendous physical load that we’ve been giving them, but we’re getting him [Mensah] up to speed, and seems like it’s going really well,” Crew coach Gregg Berhalter added.
Mensah could make his league debut when Crew host Chicago Fire on March 4.
