The Ghana FA has picked former Chelsea manager Avram Grant as the next Black Stars coach.
According to the GFA, the Israeli will succeed Kwesi Appiah if he can reach a financial agreement with the FA.
The Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi said at a press conference Friday that the former Maccabi Tel Aviv and West Ham United manager stood out among the final shortlists.
Nyantakyi said if Grant, who is scheduled to be unveiled next week, fails to agree on the financial terms, Juan Jimenez will be the next coach of the four-time African champions.
After an interview in October, the FA said Grant impressed them with his plans for the African side coupled with his strong record.
He is expected in Ghana in a few days time to finalise the deal as well as understudy the system. Grant, who is the technical director of BEC Tero Sasana, will in the interim keep acting coach Maxwell Konadu as his deputy.
Ghana parted ways with Appiah on September 12 after playing two 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. He failed to lead the Black Stars to go beyond the group stages of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil amidst player revolt which led to the expulsion of two midfielders – Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng – in camp.
The Black Stars have been without a coach since Appiah left the job after the opening two 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and was replaced by Maxwell Konadu on a temporary basis.
Konadu oversaw the Black Stars back-to-back ties against Guinea in October, leading them to a 1-1 draw and a 3-1 victory to lift them to the top of Group E.
The delay in finding a new coach means Konadu is set to oversee the Black Stars final qualifiers, away to Uganda on 15 November and then at home to Togo four days later.
Initially former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac is being widely tipped to return to the post he held between 2008 and 2010.
Former Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert, ex-German international Bernd Schuster and Italian Marco Tardelli were also shortlisted for the job but were never interviewed for different reasons.
