A very spirited second half performance saw Medeama rallied from behind to secure maximum points and condemn Kotoko to a third straight Ghana Premier League game without a win at the T and A park on Wednesday afternoon.
Defender Paul Aidoo converted two goals in last 15 minutes to give the Mauves and Yellows their first win since match day one and pile more pressure on Zdravko Lugarusic, who fans want out due to the unattractive displays by the team.
Kotoko fans were expecting their side to bounce back to the win column after defeat at Hearts and disappointing stalemate at home against Inter Allies but Medeama fought hard to consign them to their first defeat in seven years at Tarkwa.
It was Kotoko who made the first statement. Ahmed Adams opened the scoring with a powerful header on 32 minutes from a well-taken corner by Michael Akuffu. The strong defender, left unchallenged in the penalty area, scored to give the Porcupine Warriors the advantage in first 45 minutes.
However, Medeama profited and took advantage of the substitution of Michael Akuffu, who was controlling and dictating the midfield for Kotoko and making life difficult for the home side. They saw more of the ball following his exist as replacement Awal Mohammed failed to live up to the billing.
Paul Aidoo equalised in the 75th minute before converting a late penalty to the salvage a 2-1 win much to the delight of Tarkwa fans.
Medeama have jumped out of the relegation zone following the defeat while Kotoko have lost their first spot, now second to WAFA.
