Norwegian Tippeligaen side Vålerenga Fotball have announced the signing of Ghanaian youngster Ernest Agyiri on loan for the season from Manchester City.
18-year-old Agyiri, a midfielder who has been capped at youth level by Ghana, officially joined City in 2015 from the Right to Dream Academy in his homeland, becoming the latest of many to follow that well-trodden path.
Vålerenga pointed to the contacts boss-in-waiting Ronny Deila has at the City Football Academy as the reason this deal was possible. Deila, who took Patrick Roberts to Celtic on loan from City before losing his job, takes over at the Norwegian club in January and was instrumental in this deal happening.
City have signed many young talents from Right to Dream in recent years, with the majority of them going on loan to Scandinavian clubs, where work permits are less of an issue than in Britain.
While none have come even close to breaking into City’s first-team squad as yet, the club is helping Ghanaian youngsters forge careers as footballers in Europe.
