According to reports emanating out of Ghana, Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly set to offer Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori a deal at the club.
The player, who is currently on the books of Ghanaian Premier League side Wa All-Stars reportedly trained with the Chloorkop-based club.
After the conclusion of the African Cup of Nations in Gabon. Ofori’s only appearance at the competition came in Ghana’s third and fourth placed play-off against Burkina Faso.
Former Masandawana scout and current technical director of the South African Coaches Association, Sudesh Singh confirmed that the 22-year-old had been invited for trials with the Tshwane giants.
“Sundowns is looking at dominating for a foreseeable future, currently Pitso (Mosimane) has invited Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori for trials and he sees him as a better competition to Denis Onyango,” Singh told Takoradi-based Empire FM.
“I can confirm that with the little I’ve heard and seen, Richard will be a good addition to the side and very soon he should be a Sundowns player.”
In the aftermath of these reports Goal contacted Sundowns media officer Thulani Thuswa, who vehemently denied such claims, putting to bed the rumours.
“There’s nothing like that,” Thuswa expressed to Goal.
The 2017 Caf Super Cup champions have already filled their foreign quota for the season which would make Ofori’s move highly unlikely.
Sundowns already have ample quality in the goalkeeping department with African based Player of the Year, Denis Onyango, Wayne Sandilands and Kennedy Mweene all within their ranks.
