Ghana international Majeed Waris opened the scoring for his side in their emphatic 4-1 victory over Lyon in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday evening.
The Ghanaian was in the starting line-up and made his influence count when he tapped home his sides first goal on the 42nd minute.
Corentin Tolisso opened the scoring for Lyon on the 28th minute but Waris’s smart finish meant the visitors restored hope.
Sylvain Marveaux made it 1-2 for Lorients to the surprise of the thousands that had gathered for the game.
Cameroon international Benjamin Moukandjo continued his blistering form and nodded home the 3rd for the relegation threatened side.
He pounced on yet another sloppy defensive play from Lyon to grab his brace ten minutes from time to give his side a deserved 4-1 victory on the day and most importantly push them out of the relegation zone for the first time in 12 weeks.
Fellow Ghanaian Alhassan Wakaso, started the game on the bench but came on to play the last 20 minutes of the game to see out the victory.
