The president of Ghana Fencing Association (GFA), Mohammed Mahadi, says he will use his new role as vice president of the African Confederation of Fencing (ACF) to promote the development of the sport in the country.
He polled 16 votes out of 27 to win the position of the African continental body which was held in Dakar, Senegal on September 11 this year .
Describing his position as a great honour and a testament to the hard work , Mr Mahadi,assured to collaborate with all stakeholders to inject new blood into the sport to make it more attractive.
“My victory in a Francophone dominated election was a great honour to me and the entire Nations, but I am very interested in how I can leverage my role to help develop the sport of fencing in Ghana”, he told Graphic Sports yesterday in an interview.
“I will do this by voicing the challenges of Ghana fencing to the international federations. I also I hope to have an influence on policies that will promote and develop the sport at the grassroots level not only in Ghana but Africa.
With this position, I will lobby the International Fencing Federation to support my developmental agenda by providing Ghana with resource persons who will train our coaches and national teams,” he assured.
