Leicester City manager Claude Puel has defended his decision to hand Daniel Amartey a starting berth in their 1-1 draw with AFC Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Saturday.
Amartey, 23, had failed to make the match day squad for the Foxes since featuring in their 2-0 win over Watford in Week 24 of the league.
The former FC Copenhangen was however, handed a starting spot over the weekend in their one all draw with AFC Bournemouth but suffered an injury with just 20 minutes on the clock and was replaced with Ben Chilwell.
And when asked of his decision to hand Amartey the nod ahead of regular right back Danny Simpson, the French tactician explained that the Ghanaian had trained well and was in fantastic form hence chose him for the game.
“I changed just because we have a team with a lot of players who are close to each other. We have different options,” he said.
‘I wanted to see Amartey because he is training very well at this moment with quality. He gave his best and it was interesting to see also Christian Fuchs.”
Amartey is expected to miss a few games during the tail end of the campaign.
