President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantankyi has returned home after securing his second term on the FIFA Council through an election held in Ethiopian’s capital Addis Ababa on Thursday, March 16.
Addressing the press on his arrival at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Kwesi Nyantakyi expressed appreciation to Members of the African Football confederation for exercising their franchise in his favor.
‘I want to express my appreciation to everyone who supported me, it wasn’t an easy election. I thank the 54 members of the African football Confederation and my colleagues at the Ghana Football Association for the confidence you have imposed in me’
Kwesi Nyantakyi defeated Tanzania’s Leodegar Tenga by garnering 13 more votes than his opponent, securing his four-year term on the FIFA Council after getting just six months in office in his previous terms on the governing body’s board.
Meanwhile President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Isha Johansen, who was also a successful candidate at the FIFA Council Election congratulated Kwesi Nyantakyi, adding that he (Kwesi Nyantankyi) is a worthy contender to serve the federation nationally and internationally.
Isha Johansen becomes the first Sierra Leonean to be elected as a CAF Executive Committee member from 2017 – 2021 following the CAF 39th Ordinary General Assembly in Ethiopia.
The SLFA’s boss Johansen was also recently been given a lofty appointment into a powerful FIFA sub-committee – the FIFA Members Association Committee
