Kotoko will not return to Kumasi until after the 2016/17 Premier League, match day 14 encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on May 6, 2017 against Accra Great Olympics. The Porcupines left Kumasi for Accra on Saturday morning ahead of Monday’s – “Ghana 60 Years On Anniversary Cup” – first leg tie with arch rivals, Hearts of Oak.
With Kotoko’s next league match at the same venue in less than a week’s time, Management’s decision is that, the team stays in Accra till the match is played. This is to spare the Porcupines the stress of returning to Kumasi on Monday night, train between Tuesday and Thursday, and head to Accra for the date with Great Olympics on Saturday.
“We will be here until we are done with the Olympics game on Saturday” Director of Operations, Ernest Owusu Ansah told Asantekotokosc.com. “We want to give the players ample time to rest and also prepare after the Hearts game. We wouldn’t want to travel back to Kumasi only to come back here after a few days. It will be too tiresome. We will be here after Monday and do all our preparations for Olympics here” he explained.
Kotoko have now gone six league games without a win. The team is pulling all plugs to reverse that distressing trend. The Olympics match undoubtedly offers the Porcupines the chance to appease their fans. A likely victory over the Wonder Club could mark a proper turning point for the fabulous lads, who must first beat Hearts in the anniversary match on May 1.
