The newly appointed Head of Communications of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Obed Acheampong, has said the club is working hard at improving the relationship between the fans and the management of the club.
Various management teams have struggled to get the fans in sync with their activities, which have ultimately led to their failure to better communicate the club’s plans to their vociferous fan base.
Speaking to Class Sports, Mr Acheampong said the situation would change.
“Kotoko are a big club. [They are] a club built on excellence. All they know is constant glory, constant victory. They always demand to be at the top and that is the culture. I’m working at linking the club to the fans, that is, taking the club to the fans and letting the fans feel a part of the club,” he stated.
The club have over the last decade struggled to attract the support of the youth, who have rather demonstrated a strong affinity for European football.
According to Mr Acheampong the club will put in place strategies to win the youth interested in European football to their side.
“We need to also look at the support base of the club. The current generation of football-loving fans is not really into local football. Most of them are into foreign football, but we can also do something to build up that spirit in them and develop that love for local football, especially [for] Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
“I want to seriously address that gap by targeting the youth who fall within the space so that the future fan base of the club will be solidified going forward,” he added.
The club are currently undergoing pre-season preparations as they look to reclaim the league trophy when the new season commences at a yet-to-be-announced date.
