Teenage Ghanaian swimmer Kaya Forson recorded her personal best time despite finishing last in Heat One of the women’s freestyle 200 metres race at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
The 14-year-old recorded a time of 2:16.02 to finish behind Matelita Buadromo from Fiji and Shivani Shivani from India.
Buadramo won the heat in a time of 2:05.49 while Shivani placed second in a time record of 2:09.30. However, none of the three swimmers progressed to the semi-final stage of the competition.
Although her race ended in disappointment, Kaya Forson made history by becoming the first Ghanaian to compete in swimming at the Olympic Games.
