Ghana winger Edwin Gyasi is honoured to have been handed the iconic number 8 shirt at new club CSKA Sofia.
Gyasi, 26, joined the Bulgarian giants for an undisclosed fee a few weeks ago from Norwegian side Aalesund FK.
The former Roda JC wideman was handed the number 8 shirt, which was worn by Bulgarian legend Hristo Stoichkov during his time at the club.
And after making his debut as a late substitute in their goalless draw with Cherno More, Gyasi indicated his determination to become a success in the iconic number 8 jersey.
“You saw that the Black Sea game was heavy. They were supported in defense and made it difficult for us. If we had some of our capabilities, the game would have been easy. I would like to start with a win, but I did play for the first few minutes,” the 26 year-old said.
“The CSKA president contacted, everything happened quickly and the deal was finalized. I still cannot compare to the championships of the Netherlands and Norway but I already feel how big the team is. CSKA is a top team.”
“I know Ronald Albert from childhood. We were in AZ Alkmaar. He told me great things about the past of CSKA. I watched Stoichkov’s game, and it is my honour to wear his shirt.”
“Of course, I believe we can become champions. We are a top team. Now we have to forget the game against the Black Sea and move on. My personal ambitions are related to the team, to help CSKA to take more trophies and become champions.”
“Crazy job, I like the fans, the atmosphere is fanatical, I like it very much,” Gyasi concluded.
