Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe is new in Auckland but the 22-year-old Ghanaian already feels like he has been living in New Zealand all his life, having been taken aback by the hospitality and unending show of love from the people in the Oceania country.
Undefeated Dogboe (15-0, 9 KOs) and his father/trainer, Paul successfully arrived Wednesday in the city where he faces the next test of his budding career against Julian Evaristo Aristule (32-6, 16 KOs) of Argentina come next week Saturday, December 10.
The two will face-off in a WBO International, WBO Latino and final WBO super bantamweight world title eliminator on the undercard of the Joseph Parker versus Andy Ruiz WBO world heavyweight championship – tickets sold out in 20 minutes – and Dogboe is getting used to his new surroundings pretty quickly.
“It’s a beautiful country with nice people like Ghana, good hospitality, we feel like home here, people walk to us and start shaking Isaac, poking him, saying they heard of him. We also met Moyoyo, the heavyweight boxer and some Ghanaians here too,” Paul Dogboe disclosed from their Auckland base.
“It was similarly wonderful on the plane when for some reason the Emirates Airline crew recognised Isaac and gave us VIP treatment on the flight from Dubai to New Zealand. When we got here, immigration was also good, everything is going smoothly, it’s definitely a knockout win,” he added.
Dogboe Sr also took the time to emotionally acknowledge the support of former Ghana president, Jerry Rawlings who they went to show the WBO African boxer of the year gong and receive blessings from before emplaning to New Zealand via Dubai of course.
“We visited the ex-president of Ghana, and he blessed us before we left, he is one of the great pillars behind Isaac. We appreciate the mighty support he and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings have given us since we came into contact with them. Long live Papa J and long live Isaac Royal Storm Dogboe,” Paul Dogboe said.
