It was smiles for All Stars and Aduana Stars on matchday 26 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
Unlike Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, who both dropped points, the top two improved their title hopes with major wins, with four rounds of matches to go.
All Stars had a solitary Kwaku Asiedu Baffour’s strike to thank for a slim 1-0 win over New Edubiase in Bekwai, whereas Godfred Saka (pen) and Noah Martey scored to hand Aduana a 2-0 home triumph over reigning champions Ashanti Gold at Dormaa.
Hearts have now gone six games without a win following a 1-1 stalemate with Inter Allies at the Accra Sports Stadium. Inusah Musah saved the Phobians’ blushes on 83 minutes after Ropapa Mensah had given the away side a 39th-minute lead. Frederick Boateng of Allies was sent off eight minutes to full time.
The story was not much different at Sekondi where Asante Kotoko fought back to snatch a 1-1 draw. An Amos Frimpong penalty 12 minutes to full time cancelled out a Samuel Afful opener for Hasmal four minutes earlier.
Liberty Professionals and Wafa, meanwhile, settled for a scoreless deadlock at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman.
Elsewhere at the Dawu Park, Dreams picked their seventh home win of the season with a 2-1 triumph over fellow newly-promoted Techiman City. Stephen Manu’s consolation could not equal strikes by Aaron Amoah and Michael Sarpong.
And earlier on Saturday, Ebusua Dwarfs saw their six-game unbeaten streak come to an end following a stunning 2-0 home defeat to Bechem United. Yaw Abotsi and Frank Andoh scored for the visitors.
Medeama’s clash with Berekum Chelsea has been rescheduled due to the former’s Caf Confederation Cup trip to Algeria on Saturday.
