Ashanti Gold forward Hans Kwoffie is over the moon to have hit three goals in his side’s 3-1 victory over new boys Accra Great Olympics in the Ghana Premier League on Saturday.
The attacker netted all goals in eight minutes to condemn the away side to a sour return to the elite division at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.
He was on the score sheet in the 38th, 41st and 46th minutes, his heroic lifting the Miners to fourth on the log.
“I feel great, it’s not easy to score three goals in one game,” Kwoffie told Goal.
“As the main striker, I knew I was going to score, but not three goals. I was surprised myself.
“The team we presented on the day was a very fantastic team, we played according to plan and we managed to score.”
Kwoffie’s hat-trick had everything to do with team-mate Amos Addai. The former Medeama attacker was picked out by the latter’s crosses for the first two goals, after which he had the easiest effort of tapping in from close range for the third goal upon receiving a ball, once again, from Addai.
“Amos is a very talented player,” Kwoffie said.
“I watched him before coming [joining the club], and I saw him to be a good player.
“With the assists, the eye contact was there and the passes too were perfect. He’s an upcoming star and he did well on the day.”
Now the toast of fans in Obuasi, Kwoffie is not lost on the pressure associated with scoring thrice on just the second matchday of a new season.
“I have to put in more effort,” he explained.
“I am an attacker and if I get the chance, I have to score, but I’m not targeting the goal king award. My target is for Ashgold to win a trophy – the league or the FA Cup.
“But I don’t have to miss my chances. After scoring three goals and I start missing my chances, people will start talking. So I have to score more goals.”
Kwoffie joined Ashgold last month after helping Bechem United win the FA Cup last season.
