Greek side Panathinaikos have disclosed that they will not be worried if they lose the legal battle to Essien following the Ghanaian’s action against the team after mutually terminating his contract.
Panathinaikos are expected to dash out over €600k to the former Chelsea star but have failed to honour their promise compelling the Ghanaian to drag them before the Greece Football Association to seek redress.
The Greens could lose their UEFA License for competitions as well as transfers if they fail to respect the terms of the contract with the Ghanaian.
According to UEFA License regulations, licenses for clubs are not issued if they owe players huge amount or go into liquidation.
They therefore have to pay Essien first before they get the license for competitions and transfers but Panathinaikos are trying to delay the case in order to obtain the license first.
The club is however not intimidated by the fact that they could lose the license and want to see the case travel to the full length.
This development means Essien is likely to receive his entitlements from Panathinaikos if the Greek side wants to avoid the wrath of UEFA.
