President Akufo Addo has charged the Black Stars of Ghana, participating in the 2017 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON2017) to “Go for Gold” whiles wishing the entire technical and management team well.
The President told the team that it was “time to end our 34 year wait for the AFCON trophy” and ensure that they bring the trophy home. These were contained in a goodwill tweet to the Ghanaian delegation ahead of the tournament hosted by Gabon.

The black stars are among 15 other countries meeting to battle it out for the ultimate prize and bragging rights. Ghana has attempted severally to win the trophy which has eluded the country for almost 35 years.
At the last edition which was in Equatorial Guinea, Ghana managed to make it to the finals but lost on penalties to neigbouring Cote D’Ivoire. The Black Stars kick of their campaign on Tuesday January 17th January, at the Stade de Port-Gentil against the Cranes of Uganda.
There is low optimism in the country about the tournament but information from the camp of the Black Stars shows they are in high spirit ahead of the tournament.
