Member of Parliament for Suame and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has endorsed Isaac Asiamah’s assertions that the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) have not cancelled their sponsorship deal to the Black Stars.
Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu had earlier made comments suggesting that GNPC were channeling the sponsorship chunk of the money into other areas including offering scholarships to science students in the fields of Geo-physics and Geology.
Nonetheless, Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Isaac Asiamah dismissed that comments claiming GNPC will continue supporting the Ghana Football Association.
In what could be termed as a swift back-track, Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu told Happy FM Tuesday morning that in deed GNPC haven’t quashed their sponsorship to the Black Stars but this time, the money will be channeled through the Ministry of Sports who will be responsible for its disbursement to ensure transparency and accountability.
“I think all along, I’ve been saying the same thing as my colleague Hon. Asiamah said. GNPC hasn’t withdrawn their sponsorship to the Black Stars but this time, the money will not be given to the Ghana Football Association directly by instead it will be given to the Sports Ministry for disbursement to ensure accountability and transparency.” He told Happy FM.
