Primeval Media, in conjunction with the Ghana 60 Years on Committee, has launched a project dubbed ‘Ghana’s Finest 22’ which seeks to identify and honour 22 of Ghana’s greatest footballers.
The list which features the likes of Stephen Appiah, Kwasi Appiah, Ibrahim Sunday, and current Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan was put together by a committee consisting of M. N.D Jawula, Kudjoe Fianoo, Karl Tuffour, Fiifi Banson and headed by veteran sports writer Mr Ken Bediako.
A list of 55 players (5 players for each position) has been selected, and will later be pruned down to a final list of 22 players (two for each position) with the help of the general public who will be asked to vote.
Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah who was present at the launch and on the list, expressed delight at the initiative and spoke of his pride in being on the list.
“I am very honoured and I never knew that I will get to this level one day. I’m happy that Primeval have taking up this initiative to honour those who have fought for the nation, and it is a very good thing they are doing,” he said.
The general public can help select the final list by voting for their favourite players via short code number 1458 on all networks.
The public will have a 40% stake in the selection process while the Committee will have 60% stake in the selection The final 22 players will then be rewarded during an awards gala/dinner later in the year.
