Kwesi Nyanyakyi, the president of the Ghana football Association (GFA), says steps are being taken to fill the vacant position of General Secretary at the secretariat.
According to Mr Nyantakyi, the FA’s Executive Committee, the association’s appointing authority, has held discussions over the vacancy and in due time will confirm who the next administrative head of association will be.
In an interview with the graphic sports, Mr Nyanyakyi indicated that since the FA decided some time ago that it was not going to recruit a general secretary from outside of the association, there was a need to give officials who could possibly occupy the position from within the FA the time to mature inyo the role.
Though the FA president would not confirm it, it looks certain that either the current acting general secretary, Alex Asante, or his colleague, Isaac Addo, would be confirm for the role as the FA has no plans to recruit from outside.
“After the exit of Mr Kofi Nsiah, The executive committee decided that it was not going to recruit from outside but was going to appoint from within. However, the best qualified personnel had not held such high managerial roles and they had to be given time to enhance themselves” Nyantakyi explained.
Since the departure of Mr Nsiah in 2010, after he went on compulsory retirement, the FA has yet to appoint a substantive successor, Mr. Emmanuel Gyimah acted after Mr Nsiah exit then till 2015 when he also went on voluntary retirement and acting position also occupied by the deputy general secretary charge of marketing and sponsorship, Mr. Addo.
At the moment, Mr. Addo who has been acting since 2015 has taken his accumulated leave and is likely to return in two months’ time.
Addo is also in a legal fight to clear his name and overturn a nine-month FIFA ban after being indicted by football’s world governing body for alleged sexism comments against a Papua New Guinean lady.
Mr. Addo, who led Ghana’s team to FIFA’S U-20 Women’s World Cup draw last year, was indicted by FIFA alongside GFA ExCo member, Nanabanyin Eyison following a complaint lodged against them by their Papua New Guinea liaison officer for alleged sexual harassment.
