Vice President for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Akwasi Afriyie, has made a staunch revelation claiming the current Black Stars players are not having love and passion in playing for the national team but rather interested in the huge sums of money- winning bonuses and appearance fees given to them by the nation.
Ghanaians have expressed their displeasure with the players of the Black Stars over lack of commitment and a deliberate attempt to enrich themselves with the financial status of the country.
The Black Stars have lost the love and supporting base from Ghanaians following their protest of non-payment of allowances and appearance fees in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Mr. Afriyie who doubles as the chairman for Liberty Professionals, believes the current Black Stars are not playing for love and the passion for the nation-but are playing for the nation because of the mouthwatering bonuses and Appearance fees.
He further stressed the players are justified demanding those monies considering the work that it entails-As a result the Sports Ministry have reached an agreement with them to slash their winning bonuses from $10,000 to $8,000.
“Money motivations is huge in terms of African players take it or leave it. I’m saying it today on your radio station any player in the Black Stars should come out and dispute what I’ now saying,” George Akwasi Afriyie exclusively told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.
“Money motivation in South Sahara African is key, I‘m happy you were privilege to watch Rev Osei Kofi and the rest if we didn’t watch them-we heard what they did for the nation by winning many laurels.
“Why are they still crying after their sacrifice for the country? Some of them are struggling in life now and the footballers of today are watching and learning from them.
“You can ask players playing in Cote D’Ivoire, Nigeria, Cameroon, and the rest. If anyone tells you the current players of the Black Stars are playing because of love and passion for the country then is a big lie.
“The last time I heard Mubarak Wakaso interviewed by a media house and he was saying the players of the Black Stars does not play for money and I told Wakaso the next time he will say that we won’t give him his money after any Black Stars game.
“Anyone who will tell you the Black Stars players don’t need that money is a lie, “he added
