Black Stars management committee chairman, George Afriyie, has debunked rumours surrounding the nationality choice of midfielder Kingsley Sarfo.
The IK Sirius player was reported to have chosen Sweden over Ghana despite being handed a call-up with the Black Stars.
Sarfo was handed a debut call-up by Kwesi Appiah for 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia as well as the friendly games against Mexico and USA but turned the invitation down over indecision.
Despite the Swedish FA reportedly providing the player a passport, Afriyie believes other factors hindered the midfielder from joining his colleagues in the Ghana camp.
“We have not hard an official statement from the boy and I want to set this clear that both parents of the Kingsley Sarfo are Ghanaians.”
“He clearly indicated to Kwesi Appiah his interest in playing for the Black Stars, but Sweden also declared their interest a few days after.
“We leave everything for the technical team to work on. Kingsley lost his mom few days back and he sought permission to bury her.”
The next international call-up will be in late August and the choice of the midfielder will be well known by then.
