Ghana winger Frank Acheampong’s future with Anderlecht is up in the air after a heated burst up with coach René Weiler following his failure to track back after losing a ball.
Acheampong’s despite being in-form has been curiously dropped from the first team in recent times with a reported mutiny between himself and the head coach following complains about his attitude.
The Ghanaian winger was introduced into the game as a second half substitute for Alexandru Chipciu in a Belgian First Division A match but his inability to track back could have cost his side all three points against Zulte-Waregem.
According to dhnet.be, the Anderlecht squad were annoyed with the 23-year-old’s reluctant attitude as his coach René Weiler shouted at him to perform his defensive duties.
“With nine minutes remaining, Acheampong was brought on to harass the opponent’s defense with his speed. But he failed to do all that. The was a moment he lost the ball on a counter-attack but he failed to track back. That really infuriated the coach who shouted at him saying: ‘I told what to do and see what you’re doing right now. I’m convinced you can’t play for us. The pair had exchanges in the dressing room after the game,” a source told dhnet.be.
Anderlecht’s general manager Van Holsbeeck also confronted Acheampong in locker room to warn him: “Such a bad attitude in game is not permitted. Such a thing should not happen again here in your life,” the source added.
Holsbeeck told reporters after the game: Everyone has to do his defensive duties, so I was angry at Acheampong, b He can not let his opponent run like that.”
